The Kiss

The kiss by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec was the picture I chose to write my blog about this week. I picked this picture because the red in the background really stood out to me. The purpose of this painting in my opinion is to give of the impression of love or lust. I think that this painting is more for younger generations, only because younger generations are more concerned with love and lust. It maybe for younger generations, but not too young, if the audience is too young they won’t quite understand the painting. Sometimes we think we are in love but we are only blinded by our emotions in the moment. The media of this painting is clearly print. The painting I would say to be happening at night, maybe after a night out on the town.

The Only Book

If you were told that you could save just one book for future generations, which book would you choose and why?
One book that I would save would be Tears of a Tiger. I read this book in my freshman year English class and it moved me. Tears of a Tiger is about high school students celebrating a victory after a basketball game. There is drinking and driving involved. Four guy friends are in the car together while only one friend did not drink, he was not the one who was driving. The boys crashed into a wall and three of the four got out ok. The boy who wasn’t drinking was trapped inside the car, although his friends tried to free him, he burned to death after the gas tank exploded. Andy the boy who was driving the vehicle blames his self for the death of his friend. He cannot no get him out of his mind; he is losing sight of his future and does not know if he will live or die. I believe this book should be read in all high schools, because it is very realistic and shows the effects of drinking and driving. It may be a sad story to read but I believe all high school students can relate to this story.

Halloween

What are you likes and dislikes as they pertain to Halloween? Did you trick or treat as a kid? What are your fond memories of past Halloweens?
Halloween to me is a fun holiday for children. I like to pass out candy to the little children in my neighborhood and see their cute costumes. When I was younger I always went trick or treating with my older brother and sister.  I think that it is a fun experience for children to have when they are younger to have the memories when they are older. But also some kids take it too far during Halloween. One year my brother Jesse and his friend Zach got shot with a bb-gun, because someone wanted their bags of candy. People need to watch their children and make sure that they do not cross the street back in forth in between each house. That really bothers me, because people in my neighborhood do not drive the fastest and some little kid will get hit.
One of my most fond memories of Halloween was my junior year. I was an officer on top four and Mariah and I got the chance to make up the first dance of our Halloween show. It was the first year we ever had a Halloween show and I thought it was really cool that I got to help make up the first dance. The song that we had to dance to was Thriller. Still today I have Warriorette’s talking to me about that dance. It was a fun routine to make up and I’m glad the girls had fun dancing to it.
If you could change one thing about Wright State, what would it be?
If I could change one thing about Wright State it would most definitely have to be the parking situation. When I come to school any later than 10 am, I would be driving around for a half hour trying to find a parking spot, near where I need to be. If you can’t find a parking spot you have to park in lot 4. Lot 4 is the biggest lot but it is also the furthest from the school. If you have to park in lot 4 and the weather is bad, you will not be a happy person. If it is raining outside you will be soaked by the time you reached your car.

I think that Wright State needs to invest in building a parking garage. I think that it would be very helpful and it would be worth spending the money. I do believe that there are too many parking spots for the staff and not enough for the commuter students. Most of Wright State’s student population is commuter students and they are not meeting the demands of the students. During the day when I walk outside I see teacher’s parking spots empty and students driving around in circles trying to find a parking spot, because the parking for students is so limited.

Agree or Disagree

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? If we could unplug all the TV sets in America, our children would grow up to be healthier, better educated, and more independent human beings.
I agree with this statement in ways. I think that if we unplugged all the TV sets with computers, our children would be healthier, better educated, and more independent. I believe that yes if the younger generation of Americans watched less reality TV they would be better educated, and healthier. I believe this because reality TV is not educational and promotes children to act like fools. In my own opinion I do believe that children need to go outside and be social with others their own age. Children are trying to grow up too fast and are missing on their one chance to be a child. I do think that children should be able to watch television but for only a short amount of time. Educational channels go unwatched while Reality TV is most popular in today’s culture. If children watched more educational channels I do not think that it would be so bad, but no one encourages them to watch those shows. Also the same goes with computers if children used computers for educational purposes and not Facebook then they should have a limited time on computers as well.
I think that children would be much more social with children their age. Having no TV would help motivate children to get outside and get some exercise. I do believe that children would be healthier because they wouldn’t have the option of sitting at home all day in front of a TV. They would have to get out and do something with other children to keep occupied.

Attending Wright State University

Attending Wright State University (WSU) was the right choice for me. I choose WSU as my college for many reasons. Among my reasons, the most important one would be being able to still live at home with my family. As I looked around at local colleges, I looked for a college that had a good education program. Many colleges had good programs but not exactly what I wanted to do.  I looked into WSU because it was close by and had a great education program that was exactly what I wanted to do. The Program is to become licensed in Intervention Specialist, Language Arts, and Social Studies, which is the ideal program for me.
I always knew I wanted to dance in college but I did not know where I wanted to attend college. I went to a Wright State Basketball game during last year’s season, to see Emerald Jazz perform. I saw what the team performed and it looked like fun and something I wanted to do. They were a technical team and had nationals but also cheer at the home basketball games and other events. I tried out this past May and made the team.

I love my decision to come to Wright State University. I enjoy my classes and love my schedule. I hope that I can schedule my classes similar to how they are now. I think coming to WSU was the best decision for me.

LIfe is a Highway

I choose “Life is a Highway” by: Rascal Flats for my song selection because for so long it was mine and my ex’s song. This was our song because it was in the first movie we watched together (Cars the movie). Not only was that our song because of the movie, but of the meaning behind the music. If you have never truely listened to the lyrics of “Life is a Highway” you should take the time to. The words are very moving, and can have a different meaning to each individual. “Sometimes you bend, sometime you stand” is my favorite line/verse within the song. Most people can say that they have had a moment in their lives where they have had to make the choice to stand strong or bend in their ways.

The 5 elements of the Rhetorical Situations
1.       Purpose: To entertain the listeners and also to have the audience explore their emotions, and really listen to the song.
2.       Audience: I feel like this song can and does appeal to all ages, genders, and races. The movie Cars helped promote the song, which lead to all types of people listening to the song.
3.       Genre: Song
4.       Stance: The song is a positive outlook on life. Yes life has its up’s and downs, twist and turns, just life the roads we drive on in our everyday life.
5.       Media/Design: The song is coming from a CD, and or from the movie Cars
